Who We Are

HootaThon is Temple University’s Dance Marathon through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®. We are raising money and awareness for the Child Life Department at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Our goal is for every kid at CHOP to be cured of their sickness and to have the childhood they all deserve.

HootaThon is a student organization that allows students to understand the value of service while working throughout the year to raise money for The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, with the ultimate goal of allowing kids to be kids. HootaThon hopes to unite students, faculty, staff and the community as a whole for one great cause.

In November of 2013, the very first HootaThon took place from 7am-7pm in Mitten Hall at Temple University. After twelve hours of standing and continous fun, Temple students raised over $60,000; the highest earning first-year Dance Marathon in the North East! We hope to beat our total from last year this coming November for HootaThon 2014! If you’re interested in joining us, please visit the “Get Involved” Tab at the top.

…Q: Do I have to raise a certain amount of money in order to attend HootaThon?
A: Yes. This year, HootaThon requires a $100 minimum fundraising goal. This is to ensure that everyone there has a great time and the children at CHOP are getting the best we can give. If you have not raised $100 by sign-in at HootaThon 2014, you will not be able to enter to venue. You have the option to add to remaining balance to your Donor Drive then, however once check-in closes, you will no longer have the opportunity to enter the event if $100 is not on your donor drive. Money cannot be collected at HootaThon: all donations must be channeled online through Donor Drive.

Q: What do we do while we’re there?
A: The 12-hour schedule is full of activities to keep dancers busy. These activities include dancing, performances, stories from children treated at CHOP, games, and much more!

Q: Do I have to actually dance while I’m there?
A: While it’s not required you dance, we encourage everyone to have the best time possible! You do not have to be an expert dancer: no one is judging you! Just have a great time, enjoy yourself, and just remember you’re dancing For The Kids!….
